Hiring a Landscaper in Savannah, Georgia
Landscaping contractors in Georgia who perform work as general or residential contractors must hold a license from the Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and Commercial General Contractors. License types include Residential Basic and Residential Light Commercial for residential work. Before hiring, verify that your contractor holds an active license.
You can look up a Georgia landscaping contractor's license status for free through the Georgia Secretary of State's online verification portal (GOALS). Search by the contractor's name or license number to confirm licensure. Licenses expire on June 30 each year, so check the expiration date.
When you contact a contractor, ask for their license number and type of license so you can verify it independently. This step protects you by ensuring the business is properly registered and subject to the state's complaint and enforcement process.
