Hiring a Painter in Norcross, Georgia
Painting work in Gwinnett County (where Norcross sits) often requires a permit, depending on the scope and type of work. Before hiring a contractor, confirm with Gwinnett County Planning and Development whether your project needs one. The county reviews plans, issues permits, and requires inspections for residential and commercial building work. If a permit is required, your contractor will need to submit an application through the county's online portal, and inspections will be scheduled during the work.
Georgia licenses general contractors and residential contractors through the State Licensing Board for Residential and Commercial General Contractors. Not all painting work requires a state license—it depends on the project type and scope—but if a contractor holds one, you can verify it. Use the Georgia Secretary of State's online license lookup (GOALS portal) to check a contractor's credentials by name or license number.
Ask your painter whether the work requires a local permit and, if so, who will handle the permitting process. Clarify what inspections Gwinnett County will require and when they'll happen during the project.

It depends on the scope and type of work. Gwinnett County's Planning and Development Building Services issues permits for residential and commercial building work. Contact the county or ask your contractor to confirm whether your specific project requires one. [3]
How do I look up a painter's state license?

What is a general contractor license in Georgia?

Who submits the permit application if my project needs one?
After the permit is issued, the contractor of record submits the application and contractor information through Gwinnett County's online portal. Confirm with your painter upfront who will handle this responsibility. [3]
