Hiring a Plumber in West Palm Beach, Florida
In Florida, plumbers work under the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB), overseen by the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Before hiring a plumber, verify that they hold a valid license. The CILB issues two types of construction contractor licenses: certified contractors, who can work anywhere in Florida, and registered contractors, who are limited to the jurisdictions where they registered. You can check a plumber's license status and disciplinary history through the DBPR's license search portal at myfloridalicense.com.
When you contact a plumber, ask to confirm their license type and number. This ensures they meet Florida's competency requirements for your area. You may also ask whether permits are needed for your specific project, as permit requirements vary by the scope of work and your local jurisdiction.
How do I verify a plumber's Florida license?
Visit the DBPR license search portal at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the plumber's name, license number, or city. The search will show their license status and any disciplinary information. [2]
What types of plumber licenses exist in Florida?
The Construction Industry Licensing Board issues certified contractor licenses (valid statewide) and registered contractor licenses (limited to specific jurisdictions). A certified contractor's code begins with C; a registered contractor's begins with R. [1]
Do plumbing projects in West Palm Beach require permits?
Permit requirements depend on the scope of your plumbing work and local regulations. Ask your plumber whether your project needs a permit before work begins. [3, 4]
