Before calling an HVAC contractor in Tallahassee, verify that the business holds a valid Florida construction license. The Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board oversees licensing and regulation. Contractors are designated as either certified (allowed to work statewide) or registered (limited to specific jurisdictions). You can search for a licensed contractor by name, license number, or city on the official Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation portal at myfloridalicense.com.

When requesting quotes or scheduling service, ask the contractor for their license number and type. A certified contractor, whose license begins with the letter C, can work anywhere in Florida. A registered contractor's license begins with R and is limited to the jurisdiction where it was issued. Request references and confirm that the contractor carries workers' compensation coverage.

Although local permit requirements and building-code compliance may apply to your project, the Florida Building Code Online portal provides resources and guidance. If you have questions about code compliance or local amendments, contact your city or county building department. When evaluating quotes, consider the contractor's experience, the equipment brands they offer, and whether they provide free estimates.
