Hiring an HVAC Contractor in Fort Myers, Florida
Before hiring an HVAC contractor in Florida, verify their license with the state. HVAC contractors in Florida are regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) under the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. You can search for any contractor's license online using the state's licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com.
When evaluating a contractor, confirm they hold an active license and check the specific license type. Florida issues both certified and registered contractor licenses. Ask the contractor about their license status and don't hesitate to verify it independently through the state's license search tool before signing any contract.
During your consultation, ask about how the contractor handles permits and compliance with Florida Building Code requirements for your project. Understanding the contractor's process for permitting and inspections helps ensure your installation meets all state and local codes.
How do I verify an HVAC contractor's Florida license?
Visit the Florida DBPR licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com and use the license search feature. You can search by the contractor's name or license number. An active license confirms the contractor is properly regulated by the state. [1, 2]
What license types do HVAC contractors hold in Florida?
HVAC contractors may hold either a certified license (allowing work anywhere in Florida) or a registered license (limited to specific jurisdictions). Certified licenses begin with the letter C; registered licenses begin with R. Ask your contractor which type they hold. [1]
Do I need a permit for HVAC work in Florida?
Permit requirements vary by location and project scope. Your contractor should be familiar with local permit requirements and the Florida Building Code. Ask them to explain the permitting process before work begins. [3, 4]
What should I ask an HVAC contractor before hiring?
Request their license number and verify it online. Ask how they handle permits and inspections, and ensure they understand Florida Building Code requirements for your project type. Confirm their experience with your specific system or installation needs. [1, 2, 3]
