Hiring a Landscaper in Lombard, Illinois
Landscaping businesses in Illinois are not regulated by state licensure in the same way as some other trades. The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) oversees many professional licenses, but landscape contractors fall outside the state's regulated professions list. This means you should focus on the contractor's experience, references, and portfolio when making your decision.
When evaluating a landscape lighting contractor like Artistic Outdoor Lighting, ask to see examples of completed projects and read customer testimonials. Check online reviews and ratings to understand how the business handles installation and ongoing service. A reputable contractor will be willing to discuss your project in detail, including design options and maintenance requirements.
Building permits and codes vary by municipality. Before beginning any landscape lighting work in Lombard, confirm with your local village whether permits are required for the type of installation you plan. Some hardscaping and electrical work may need approval. Artistic Outdoor Lighting can advise on local requirements when you contact them.
Are landscape contractors licensed in Illinois?
Landscaping is not a regulated profession under Illinois state licensing. You cannot look up a contractor's state license because none is required. Instead, verify the business through local references, online reviews, and a portfolio of past work. [1]
How do I check if a contractor is registered or has complaints against them?
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation maintains a consumer portal and allows you to file complaints, but this applies to regulated professions. For landscape contractors, rely on reviews, the Better Business Bureau, and references from past clients. [1]
Will I need a permit for landscape lighting in Lombard?
Permit requirements depend on the scope of work and local municipal code. Contact the Village of Lombard or ask your contractor whether permits are necessary for your specific project before work begins. [1]
What should I ask a landscape lighting contractor before hiring?
Ask to see photos or visit previous installations, request references you can contact, discuss the design process and timeline, clarify what maintenance or warranty is included, and confirm whether local permits are needed for your project. [1]
How can I verify a landscape contractor's experience?
Request a portfolio of completed projects, read online reviews and ratings, ask for client references you can call directly, and check how long the business has been operating in your area. [1]
