Plumbing work in Smyrna falls under Cobb County's permitting jurisdiction. Most plumbing projects require a permit before work begins. The Cobb County Community Development office handles residential and commercial permits; you can find information on the permitting process, required documents, and inspection scheduling on their website at cobbcounty.gov/community-development/building-development/residential-permitting.

In Georgia, plumbing contractors must hold a state license issued by the Division of Master and Journeyman Plumbers under the Georgia Secretary of State. Journeyman Plumbers have completed at least one year of plumbing work covered by the Georgia State Plumbing Code. Master Plumbers—the license level most commonly held by business owners—have documented at least five years of plumbing experience, including at least two years as a licensed Journeyman. You can verify any plumber's Georgia license for free using the online lookup at verify.sos.ga.gov/verification/.

When hiring a plumber, confirm that they hold a current Georgia Master or Journeyman Plumber license and understand whether your project requires a Cobb County permit. Ask whether they will obtain the permit or if you are responsible for doing so.
