Landscape contractors in Georgia may operate under various structures, but if your project involves significant construction or structural work, verify that any contractor you hire holds the appropriate state license. The Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and Commercial General Contractors issues licenses for Residential Basic, Residential Light Commercial, and Commercial General Contractor categories. Before hiring, check whether the scope of your project requires a licensed general or residential contractor.

You can verify a Georgia contractor's license online through the Secretary of State's GOALS portal at https://verify.sos.ga.gov/verification/. Search by the contractor's name or license number to confirm current, active status. This step protects you and ensures the contractor meets state standards.

When planning a landscape project in Savannah, ask your contractor about grading, drainage, permit requirements and any local building codes that apply to hardscaping or structural elements. Many municipalities require permits for drainage work or significant site changes. A reputable contractor will explain what permits are needed and handle the process transparently.
