In Georgia, heating and air conditioning contractors must be licensed by the Georgia State Board of Conditioned Air Contractors, one of five divisions of the State Construction Industry Licensing Board. Before hiring, verify that your contractor holds a current license. You can look up any Georgia HVAC contractor's license status for free using the Georgia Secretary of State's online verification tool (GOALS portal) by entering the contractor's name or license number.

When you contact an HVAC contractor, ask to see proof of their current license and understand what type of license they hold—requirements vary by scope of work. If you have concerns about a contractor's work or conduct, you can file a complaint with the Licensing Division of the State Construction Industry Licensing Board.

Georgia HVAC contractors must complete continuing education to maintain their licenses. Licenses expire June 30 each year, so confirm your contractor's license is active before work begins. Many HVAC jobs in Georgia require a permit—your contractor can advise whether one applies to your project.
