If you are hiring a landscaper for a larger project in Douglasville, check whether the contractor holds a state license. Georgia licenses General Contractors and Residential Contractors through the State Licensing Board for Residential and Commercial General Contractors. Residential licenses come in two types: Residential Basic and Residential Light Commercial. You can verify any contractor's license status for free through the Georgia Secretary of State's online GOALS portal, which allows you to search by name or license number.

Before you hire, ask your contractor whether they hold a Residential Basic or Residential Light Commercial license, and look up their name or license number in the state database. Licensed contractors must maintain continuing education for license renewal, and all Georgia licenses expire June 30 each year. If you have concerns about a contractor's work or conduct, you can file a complaint with the State Licensing Board's Licensing Division.
