In Florida, plumbers must be licensed by the Construction Industry Licensing Board, a division of the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). You can verify any plumber's license by searching the DBPR's online licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com, where you can look up contractors by name, license number, city, or county. This is the first step to confirm that a plumber working on your home is properly licensed.

When you call a plumber for a job, ask whether they hold a state license and request the license number. You can then verify it immediately using the DBPR search tool. Florida requires all contractors to be licensed for work that meets the state's definition of construction, repair, or improvement.

Before work begins, discuss whether your project requires a permit and whether the plumber handles permit applications. Building codes in Florida cover plumbing installations and repairs, so some jobs may require inspection. Your plumber should be familiar with local code requirements and willing to obtain permits if needed.
