Before you hire a landscaper in West Palm Beach, understand Florida's contractor licensing system. The Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board oversees contractor licensing and regulation. If a landscaper performs work that qualifies as construction—such as major landscape installations, hardscaping, or irrigation system work—they may need to hold a license. Check whether the work you need falls under construction-industry scope by asking your contractor directly.

You can verify a landscaper's license status through Florida's official license search at myfloridalicense.com. Search by the contractor's name, license number, or city. This free search lets you confirm their license is active and in good standing. If a contractor claims to hold a license, always verify it before signing a contract.

Florida's Building Code applies to many landscape projects, especially those involving irrigation, drainage, or hardscape structures. Ask your contractor whether your project requires a permit and which building-code standards apply. A professional landscaper will know permit requirements for your area and scope of work.
