HVAC contractors in Florida must hold a license issued by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). Before hiring, verify that your contractor holds a valid license by searching the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation (DBPR) online license portal at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the contractor's name, license number, or city.

When you hire an HVAC contractor, confirm whether they are a certified contractor (license code begins with C, allowing work in any Florida jurisdiction) or a registered contractor (code begins with R, limited to specific jurisdictions). Ask to see their license and check its status before work begins.

Florida's building code applies to HVAC installations and replacements. Permitting requirements vary by locality, so ask your contractor whether permits are needed for your specific job. A licensed contractor will understand local code requirements and handle permitting if necessary.
