Hiring an HVAC Contractor in West Palm Beach, Florida
Before you call an HVAC contractor in West Palm Beach, start with a licensing check. Florida's Construction Industry Licensing Board regulates HVAC contractors through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). All contractors working on construction, repair, or alteration projects must hold the proper license. You can verify a contractor's license status using the DBPR's online license search portal at myfloridalicense.com.
When you contact a contractor like AC All Stars, ask whether they hold a certified or registered license. Certified contractors have statewide authority, while registered contractors are limited to specific jurisdictions. Confirm the license is current and in good standing before work begins.
Florida follows the Florida Building Code for all construction work, including HVAC systems. Ask your contractor whether the work will require a permit and whether they handle permits. Work that alters, replaces, or installs new HVAC systems typically requires inspection and code compliance.
How do I look up an HVAC contractor's license in Florida?
Visit the DBPR's license search portal at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the contractor's name, license number, or city. The search will show whether the license is active and in good standing. [1, 2]
What types of HVAC licenses exist in Florida?
Florida issues certified and registered contractor licenses. A certified contractor can work anywhere in the state, while a registered contractor is limited to the jurisdiction where they registered. Ask which type your contractor holds. [1]
Do HVAC projects require a permit in Florida?
Most HVAC work that involves repair, alteration, or replacement of systems requires a permit. Check with your local building department and confirm with your contractor that they will handle or coordinate permits before the job starts. [3, 4]
What should I ask an HVAC contractor before hiring?
Ask for proof of a current Florida license, confirmation that they understand Florida Building Code requirements, and whether the work will require a permit. Request references and a clear written estimate. [1, 3]
