Hiring a Plumber in Tallahassee, Florida
In Florida, plumbing contractors are licensed and regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Before you hire, verify that your plumber holds a current license. You can search for any contractor's license status through the DBPR's online license search portal, which allows you to look up plumbers by name, license number, or city. This step protects you and ensures the work meets state standards.
When plumbing work requires a building permit—such as major repairs, repiping, or new installations—your contractor should obtain it. Florida Building Code requirements apply to all plumbing work in the state. Ask your plumber whether your project needs a permit and who will handle the application.
How do I verify a plumber's license in Florida?
Use the Florida DBPR's license search tool at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the plumber's name, license number, or city. This confirms the license is current and valid. [1, 2]
What license types do Florida plumbing contractors hold?
Florida contractors are either certified (license code begins with C, valid statewide) or registered (license code begins with R, valid only in their jurisdiction). Ask which type your plumber holds. [1]
Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Tallahassee?
Many plumbing jobs require a permit under Florida Building Code. Ask your plumber upfront whether your work needs one and confirm they will obtain it. [3, 4]
