Common Ground Earthworks, Inc.

Common Ground Earthworks, Inc. believes the planet's resources are shared and taking care of them is a responsibility and a privilege. The company aims to make land more functional, less wasteful, and more beautiful one property at a time.

Services include land clearing to remove overgrowth and make room for new landscaping or construction, erosion repair with berms, swales, and retaining walls, creative landscaping for gardens and outdoor spaces, driveway creation and renovation with grading and erosion control, lot development with grading and site preparation, and storm repair including debris cleanup and landscape restoration.

Before hiring a landscaper in Tallahassee, understand Florida's licensing structure. The state's Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) regulates contractors. Landscapers may be certified or registered contractors. A certified contractor holds a certificate of competency from the state and can work in any Florida jurisdiction; a registered contractor has met requirements for a specific jurisdiction and may only work there. You can verify a contractor's license status and history through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's license search portal.

When evaluating contractors, ask whether they hold a state certification or local registration and confirm their license type. Check their record on the DBPR website by name or license number. Discuss any permits required for your project—lot development, erosion work, and site preparation may trigger local or state requirements. Ask the contractor about their experience with Florida Building Code compliance, especially if the work involves grading, drainage, or structures.

Get the contractor's license status before signing a contract. Ask what permits they will pull and whether they carry workers' compensation insurance. Discuss the scope of work in detail and any warranty or guarantee for the work.
