In Florida, pool construction is regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Before hiring a contractor for a pool project, you should verify their license status and understand what permits your project will require. The state maintains an online license search where you can check a contractor's credentials.

Pool work in Florida may fall under general contracting or specialty pool contractor licensing, depending on the scope. Some contractors hold broad licenses, while others are limited to specific areas such as excavation, structural work, decking, or finishes. Understanding which type of license a contractor holds helps clarify what work they can legally perform.

Your local jurisdiction in Tallahassee will determine permit requirements for your pool project based on the Florida Building Code. It's important to confirm that your contractor will secure the necessary permits and that the work will comply with local code requirements before construction begins.
