In Florida, concrete contractors are regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Before work begins, confirm that your contractor holds the appropriate license. Contractors are designated as either certified (occupation code starting with C, allowed to work statewide) or registered (occupation code starting with R, limited to specific jurisdictions). You can verify a contractor's license status through the DBPR online license search portal.

Concrete work in Tallahassee falls under the Florida Building Code. Depending on the scope of your project, permits may be required. Ask your contractor whether they handle permits and grading for your specific job—this varies by project type and local requirements. Understanding these upfront prevents delays and ensures the work meets code.

When hiring, request the contractor's license type and number so you can look it up yourself. Clarify what the project scope includes, whether permits are handled by them, and any details about curing timelines and finish options for your concrete work.
