Hiring an HVAC Contractor in Pompano Beach, Florida
In Florida, HVAC contractors must hold a license from the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The board regulates all contractors who undertake repair, alteration, or improvement work on buildings for compensation. Contractors are classified as either certified (holding a certificate of competency valid statewide) or registered (licensed only in specific jurisdictions). Before hiring, verify the contractor's license status and ensure they hold the appropriate credential for work in Pompano Beach.
You can search any contractor's license on the official Florida DBPR portal by name, license number, city, or license type. This free search lets you confirm the contractor is active and in good standing. It also shows any disciplinary history. Always ask the contractor for their license number and check it yourself before signing a contract.
Florida's Building Code sets standards for all construction and repair work, including HVAC systems. Make sure your contractor is familiar with current code requirements for your project and can explain how their work will meet local standards in Pompano Beach.
What license does an HVAC contractor need in Florida?
Florida HVAC contractors must hold either a certified license (valid statewide) or a registered license (valid only in the jurisdiction where it was issued). A certified contractor has passed a competency exam; a registered contractor has met the competency requirements set by the local jurisdiction. [1]
