Before hiring an electrician in Orlando, verify their state license. Florida's Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board regulates electrical contractors under several license types. An electrical contractor (EC) can handle electrical installations, repairs, alterations, and design work. A registered electrical contractor (ER) is limited to specific cities and counties where they're registered. You can search for a licensed electrician by name, license number, city, or license type through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's online license search at myfloridalicense.com.

Most electrical work in Orlando requires permits from the City of Orlando's Building & Development division. You should verify that your electrician will obtain necessary permits and schedule inspections as required by local code. The City of Orlando's permitting office can guide you on which permits apply to your project—whether it's a rewiring, panel upgrade, generator installation, EV charger, or lighting work.

When contacting an electrician, ask whether they hold a current state license, what type of license they hold, and whether they're familiar with permit requirements for your specific project. Confirm that they follow the Florida Building Code and understand local inspection procedures. This due diligence helps ensure the work meets safety standards and passes final inspection.
