In Florida, painters who work as independent contractors typically need licensing through the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The board oversees license types, applications, renewals, and disciplinary matters. To verify a contractor's license status or to search by name, license number, or city, use the DBPR online license search at myfloridalicense.com.

Before hiring, check the contractor's license using the state's search tool. Ask whether they hold a certified or registered license—certified contractors may work anywhere in the state, while registered contractors are limited to specific jurisdictions. Confirm that any work requiring permits has the proper approvals from Miami-Dade County Building Department, as local requirements apply to painting projects that involve structural or code-related changes.
