Hiring an HVAC Contractor in Jacksonville, Florida
HVAC contractors in Florida must be licensed by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB). You can verify that any contractor you call holds a valid license by searching the state's online licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com. You have the option to search by the contractor's name, license number, city, or license type. This lookup takes just a few minutes and confirms the contractor is registered to work in your jurisdiction.
When you hire an HVAC contractor in Jacksonville, any permit-required work must comply with the Florida Building Code (currently the 8th Edition, 2023). The City of Jacksonville's Building Inspection Division enforces these codes and manages the permitting process. Most HVAC work requires permits—your contractor should be familiar with local requirements and able to guide you through the process. You can contact the Building Inspection Division at 904-255-8500 or visit JaxEPICS.coj.net to check permit status or ask about what your project needs.
Before you sign a contract, ask your contractor whether they hold a certified license (which allows them to work anywhere in Florida) or a registered license (which limits them to specific jurisdictions). Confirm they carry workers' compensation coverage and ask whether your project requires a permit under the Florida Building Code. Request references from recent Jacksonville customers and clarify what happens if building-code violations are found during inspection.
