Hiring a Plumber in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
In Florida, plumbers are regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Before hiring, verify that your plumber holds a valid state license. You can search for any contractor's license status through the DBPR online licensing portal, which allows you to look up a plumber by name, license number, or city.
Florida plumbing work typically requires permits, depending on the scope of the job. Your plumber should be familiar with local Fort Lauderdale permitting requirements and the Florida Building Code. Ask whether permits will be needed for your specific work and who will handle the permitting process.
When you call, confirm that the plumber holds a current Florida license and ask them to explain what code requirements apply to your project. This helps ensure the work will pass inspection and protect your home.
How do I verify a plumber's Florida license?
Visit the DBPR licensing portal at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the plumber's name, license number, or city. This shows whether their license is active and current. [1, 2]
Will my plumbing job require a permit in Fort Lauderdale?
Many plumbing projects require a permit under Florida law. Ask your plumber whether a permit is needed for your specific work and what the local process is. [3, 4]
What should I ask a plumber about licensing?
Ask to see proof of a current Florida license. Request the license type and number so you can verify it independently through the DBPR portal. This confirms they are authorized to work in Florida. [1, 2]
