In Florida, plumbers must be licensed by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. The state recognizes two types of contractor licenses: certified contractors, who can work anywhere in Florida after meeting state competency requirements, and registered contractors, who may only work in the jurisdictions where they are registered after meeting local competency requirements. Each license type is designated by an occupation code beginning with either C or R.

Before hiring a plumber, verify their license through the official Florida license search portal at myfloridalicense.com. You can search by the contractor's name, license number, or city. This step confirms the plumber holds an active, valid license and has no disciplinary record.

Ask your plumber whether they hold a certified or registered license and in which jurisdiction they are authorized to work. Confirm they understand local Davie building codes and permit requirements for your project. Request references and clarify their experience with your specific plumbing problem before signing a contract.
