In Florida, HVAC contractors are regulated by the Construction Industry Licensing Board under the Department of Business & Professional Regulation. Contractors are classified as either certified or registered. A certified contractor holds a statewide certificate and may work anywhere in Florida; a registered contractor is licensed only for the jurisdiction where they registered. Before hiring, verify your contractor's license status and type.

You can search for a licensed HVAC contractor through the DBPR's online license search portal at myfloridalicense.com. Look up the contractor by name, license number, or location to confirm their license is active and in good standing. This is a key step to protect yourself and ensure the work meets Florida standards.

When planning AC installation, repair, or ductwork, be aware that Florida Building Code requirements apply. Your contractor should be familiar with local permitting and code compliance for your area. Ask your contractor about any permits needed for your project and what code standards govern the work.
